These are the starting rules, most important in my opinion when it comes to battles:
1. Before you do anything in public forum, make sure you make a thread in your faction forum. Write the troops you'll use, what is your objective, and what plan of attack do you have( note that you don't have to stick to the plan of attack during battle ). You can also write the number of units you'll use, but you don't have to. Write this thread at least a day or two before you attack(depending on how complicated the operation is, you may need more or less time to prepare). The faction leader must approve your operation before you can start it.
Be realistic: For example, the chances of transporting hundreds of units in the middle of enemy territory without being discovered are very, very slim( if you don't want to say: impossible ).
2.When the battle starts, remember that you only control your own units. Don't narrate actions of your enemy's troops, or neutral units, unless you agreed with your opponent OOCly on what they'll do and/or what the result of that will be.
3. Don't write the result of a fight without talking to your opponent OOCly. It would be ideal if each player can narrate his own losses.
Be realistic: Numbers and skill of the troops are the most important factor in deciding who suffers how much losses, but in case you don't have the numbers, it's a bit more complicated.
Anyway, both you and your opponent must agree on the results of each fight. If you can't agree, the battle is frozen until you do, and those involved can't start or interfear in other battles. That way the participants will be forced to find a compromise.
I might add new suggestions in the meantime.
Discuss away.
