The Warzone Abdul-Al Rashid OOC: Okay, so this is a good example of how a battle like this goes. We're going to do it like this: my current forces consist of two divisions: an airborne and a tank division. The airborne division, or two thirds of it, is currently on its way to the designated target area in South Sudan. The tank division is currently stationed as reserve troops in Russian-controlled Kurmuk. Now, while there isn't a lot of complicated stuff, we're going to get into the casualties that can be inflicted by the amount of Russian forces present in the area. Seeing as there is a division present, let's calculate the anti-armor casualties, the anti-infantry casualties, and the anti-aircraft casualties. As I assume that aircraft will take no part in this aside from my own, there is no need to calculate this for you aside from when and if they must get involved. For now, let's concentrate on the major aspects: anti-armor and anti-infantry. Given that these are elite troops (not Guards elite, but still elite) with IFVs for combat support (BMDs and Sprut-SDs), compared to ramshackle, homemade tanks in a regiment (as far as I know, correct me if I am wrong, and provide feedback on this with your own regimental info on this), let's say that each brigade causes a maximum of 20% possible inflicted damage for frontal assaults on armored vehicles, 30% maximum for sides, and 40% maximum for rear. For infantry, given that these are rebels (once again, correct me if I'm wrong), let's say 20% maximum frontal, 40% maximum for side, and 60% maximum for rear. Now, your forces are fighting against elite combat units with good body armor, so let's say, for the GLA, whose tactics are sneaky and involve a lot of guerrilla warfare, 12% first strike frontal on VDV infantry, 30% on sides, and 40% on rear. On our armor, which you possess weapons that only your own tanks can penetrate, let's say 5% frontal casualties, 10% side, 15% rear (20 if that's more suitable). In short, this means that I have a distinct advantage against your forces on the tactical level. If I outnumber those forces, each additional formation increases that percentage by 2. Now that I've explained, I'll show you an example: Anti-Infantry Anti-Armor You would then calculate these casualties by multiplying the number of combat units that you'd have in that formation by the dice number, like in Retro's system. Instead of these being my casualties that you inflicted though, these are the casualties I've inflicted on your forces. For now, these are my forces though, heading into combat zone, so these rolls mean nothing until either I come across your forces or likewise. Certain aspects of cover (mountainous terrain bonus, home-territory bonus, urban bonus, supply lines and their effects, spying/listening in on the enemy, etc.) will be explained on later, but I thought this would be a good opportunity to show what my system's got. Good luck. южный Судан South SudanПятьдесят километров к востоку от назначенной целевой "Змеиный дыра" 50 Kilometers East of Target Designated "Snake Hole" 2215 Hours Операция: Змея Пожиратель Operation: Snake DevourerNobody but us... This was it: the big moment. General Novikov had given the "go" order for the 1st Airborne Division to move in, and so they did. In the dead of night, planes took off from the Kurmuk Research & Development Facility to the drop zone: 50 kilometers east of what was designated by the Russian military as "Змеиный дыра." Their goal: the capture or termination of the target designated " Черная мамба." As the airborne troops awaited their deployment, tension built up in the planes that bore their troops. Some would remain completely silent, others shaving with their standard knives, and others taking apart and putting back together their kalashnikovs. However, all attention was brought back to the mission that each group had at hand. "Pora! Idi, idi, idi! (It's time! Go, go, go!)" voices on intercoms yelled out. As soon as they did, the troops each readied themselves in their seats as their vehicles drove out of the planes. Hunchback helicopters also came in, bringing with them "Elbrus" artillery platforms to keep at least 100 kilometers away from the fight. At Kurmuk, the Tremor facility was, once again, active, with its barrels pointed towards the target zone. As the VDV fell from the skies, their vehicles' descent boosters activated, slowing their descent until they hit the ground. As soon as they did, VDV soldiers got out from their vehicles and moved to start moving towards the target.

The regiment was unaware of the situation, men continue to man their posts. Omar, the target, was still inside, with amatuer GLA nurses checking his vital signs. They were active, fighting the temptation of sleep. One fourths of the regiment consisted of RPG troopers, ready to clear the skies if anything stands in their way. A battalion of rebels was scouting around the perimeter of the village, seeing that a night assault was very possible they took their courage and went into the Jungle. After hearing strange noises, they decided to move with caution, only to realize that they were noises of Russian airplanes slowly drifting away from the Zone. They stand on guard, they sent two people to warn the Regiment. However despite being cautious they were discovered by the Russians, knowing that if they surrender the chances of Omar getting caught will be high. They cocked their weapons and fired on the Unsuspecting Russians, they went for a flanking position, moving as much as possible. Infantry casualties received: 23 casualties received out of 180 combat soldiers Vehicle casualties received: 0 casualties received out of 72 combat vehicles anti-infantry for 1st Airborne Rifle Battalion, 1st Airborne Brigade anti-infantry for 2nd Airborne Rifle Battalion, 1st Airborne Brigade anti-infantry for 3rd Airborne Rifle Battalion, 1st Airborne Brigade 7% casualties for your battalion in total for the 1st Airborne Brigadeanti-infantry for 1st Airborne Rifle Battalion, 2nd Airborne Brigade anti-infantry for 2nd Airborne Rifle Battalion, 2nd Airborne Brigade anti-infantry for 3rd Airborne Rifle Battalion, 2nd Airborne Brigade 20% casualties for your battalion in total for 2nd Airborne Brigade
Total: 27% casualties for your battalion
(Note: Remember that a battalion is one formation smaller than a brigade, leading to a 20% decrease in my casualties.) As soon as GLA forces attacked the Russian troops, they immediately turned their formations and pressed the attack to the battalion. A single battalion was not of great concern to the Russian troops, as they immediately began taking their fire. BMDs loaded in high explosive fragmentation rounds for as much damage as possible, and they began their assault. "Za rodinu, tovarishchi! (For the Motherland, comrades!)" many yelled out as they opened fire. Knowing that the regiment would most likely spot them, the VDV had to act fast, and began preparing to move forwards as quickly as possible. If anything, this just cemented the idea that the target had to be captured as quickly as possible.
(OOC: Forgot to mention this, as I thought you would know, but a smaller formation in comparison to larger or more formations will mean a 10% decrease in the casualties you inflict on me. So, instead of 23%, it would be 13%)

Despite the heavy fighting, they lost a company, a shame to the GLA. Continuing the firefight, 2nd and 3rd Company moved and flanked the Brigade, 1st company ran and attacked from the back, while 5th company stayed in place to cover the other 3 companies. It was a long fight, fighting and fighting to defend Omar. The three Battalions at the village were notified about the incident, quickly they called for reinforcements and 2 Ural trucks to evacuate Omar. The 1st battalion which consists mostly of Scorpion tanks, went up to a flanking position, the 3rd battalion and the 4th battalion stayed up front ready to face the Russians. The 3 Brigades at Kodok responded quickly to the Regiment's call. The 3 Brigades were marching towards the Flank of the Russian forces, ready to cut off some of them. With them was a brigade of Marauder tanks, the battle hardened brigade which fought since the first Global War on Terror. The Russians have little time to capture Omar, there was no time for mistakes. They have to finish the firefight quickly. Back at HQ, Abdul was drinking, until a man quickly came to his door notifying him: "Warlord, the Russians are near Omar, We have ordered a quick evacuation on Omar." Abdul was quiet calm. "Dismissed." He ordered. While the man went away, Abdul was smirking saying to himself: "The Plan is good so far."

OOC: To answer your question, I did the math. So yes, it should be 40% casualties in total for all of my forces currently present. At least, in infantry. Since you didn't go with tank damage, I guess I'll have to do it. >: D Infantry Casualties Received: 62 KIA (killed in action), 1 WIA (wounded in action) out of 157 Total Soldiers Armor Casualties Received: 0 out of 72 Combat Vehicles 1st Airborne Division: Current Statistics - 95 Soldiers, 72 Combat Vehicles 1st Airborne Brigade: 1st Airborne Rifle Battalion: Currently engaging 2nd Battalion Anti Infantry: Anti Armor: 2nd Airborne Rifle Battalion: Currently engaging 1st Brigade, 3rd Battalion Anti Infantry: Anti Armor: 3rd Airborne Rifle Battalion: Currently engaging 1st Brigade, 5th Battalion Anti Infantry: Anti Armor: Airborne Artillery Battalion: Currently engaging 1st Battalion Anti Infantry: Anti Armor: 2nd Airborne Brigade: 1st Airborne Rifle Battalion: Currently engaging 2nd Battalion Anti Infantry: Anti Armor: 2nd Airborne Rifle Battalion: Currently engaging 1st Battalion Anti Infantry: Anti Armor: 3rd Airborne Rifle Battalion: Currently engaging 2nd Battalion Anti Infantry: Anti Armor: Airborne Artillery Battalion: Currently engaging 3rd Battalion Anti Infantry: Anti Armor: 3rd Airborne Brigade: Reserves - currently not engaged in enemy combat 3rd Tank Division: Current Statistics - No casualties taken 2nd CAS Aviation Brigade: One squadron taking off to target - ETA 5 minutes 1st Squadron: Currently engaging targeted Ural Trucks Anti Infantry: Total Casualties Inflicted: 1st Battalion: 64% infantry/11% armor 2nd Battalion: 13% infantry/42% armor 3rd Battalion: 59% infantry/43% armor 5th (4th?) Not only was the battle just starting to get tougher for the VDV, but satellites were picking up an incoming squad to the target structure. They were trying to evacuate Omar, and it was starting to bog the Russians down as they were busy engaging his regiment, rather than moving in closer to the structure. "Komanda, my vstretili znachitel'noye soprotivleniye, i sputnikovyy kanal nabirayet neskol'ko tseley na puti k tselevoy zdaniye! Zaprashivayushchaya nemedlennuyu podderzhku! (Command, we have met significant resistance, and satellite feed is picking up multiple targets en route to target building! Requesting immediate support!)," was the report back to Kurmuk, where General Novikov was waiting to give out orders. Seeing as the 3rd Tank Division was ready for battle, including the 2nd CAS Aviation brigade being prepared for takeoff, the order was given. Although a single squadron had taken off to attack a target, the other three squadrons began to circle the battlefield in the air, awaiting the order to be given a target. "Eto 1-y eskadron 2-y vozdushnoy brigady blizko, my priblizhayemsya k tseli i gotovitsya k bombardirovke. (This is 1st Squadron, 2nd close air brigade, we are approaching the target and preparing for bombardment.)," the squad leader stated on his communications link as they approached the targets: several Urals ready to escort Omar from the region. "1-ya rota, vysvobozhdaya boyepripasy! (1st Squadron, releasing munitions!)" the squadron commander ordered, leading the attack on the urals. In seconds, the convoy was turned to settling dust on the desert-like ground. "Tselevoy pokazatel' byl porazhen, vernuvshis' domoy komandu. (Target has been hit, returning home command.) At the same time, while the majority of VDV battalions were being bogged down by enemy forces, the artillery battalions that had been brought along had begun bombardment, peppering the GLA forces with 152 mm shells from over 75 kilometers away. It was a bloodbath for GLA infantry, as they desperately tried to avoid the shots, but only succeeded in getting sent flying across the battlespace. As the battle progressed, however, the Russian forces found themselves to be surprised by the tenacity at which the GLA fought. This would either be a costly victory, or at the very least, a very close one for the Russian Federation.

"There's too many initiate retreat!" GLA soldiers shouted as they were bombarded by gunfire. They retreated seeming that there was no hope . After hearing that the 3 companies retreat, The remaining battalions stand on ground as their comrades routed. The 1st battalion came into shock as they were bombarded by heavy waves of gunfire and shells bursting into the Scorpion tanks, of course, they retaliate. With their homemade tanks, the GLA fought furiously against the VDV. Scorpion tanks explode as their armour was no match against the superior weapons of the Russian army. The 2nd battalion came no chance against the VDV infantry as it was pummeled with the sounds of Ak-47s ringing through the darkness of the night. Being attacked by multiple brigades at once, It was very outstanding that they still held their ground. Even with the sheer inaccuracy of their weapons, they still continued their fanatic Zeal. The third battalion was not so lucky, hit with artillery shells and their underwhelming numbers, also take note their high inaccuracy, they were quickly gunned down by the VDV.

fjagaming - Today at 6:34 PM well I think I'm going to give you the victory due to some stuff
Now, while this is controversial in its very nature, feel free to ask fjagaming about the situation regarding it so as to determine the validity of my claim. южный Судан South Sudan December 24, 0217 Hours Операция: Змея Пожиратель Operation: Snake Devourer
As VDV forces pushed through the lines that the Global Liberation Army had set up, it soon became easier and easier to push towards the target structure. As soon as VDV forces were close enough, sustaining significant casualties to the 1st Brigade, they began the second phase of their operation: retrieving the target from inside the target structure. A single company moved into the building to begin apprehending any guards that had gotten in the way. The 1st Platoon of the company, on the first floor, had found many notes that related to GLA activity in the Zone. Nothing of note aside from a few black market deals for hand-me-down T-64s. On the 3rd floor, the 2nd platoon had found hostages set in place, most likely by Omar, for future experimentation. Seeing as they were in a state of shock, the VDV chose to leave them for the Sudanese government to find. On the second floor, however, the target was laid on a hospital bed, hooked up to life-support. The last time anyone had seen Omar, he seemed fit as a fiddle. However, now, it seemed as though he was on the verge of death.
"Mayor, my vosprinyali tsel'. No yest' oslozhneniye, (Major, we have apprehended the target. But there is a complication.)" the lieutenant stated, "Chernaya Mamba na zhizneobespecheniye." Moving the decrepit man, in the eyes of the VDV, would endanger his life, and possibly endanger the mission as they knew it. "You are all fools," the man spoke, his voice far raspier than Omar's previous appearance, "Even if you take me, you cannot stop what is to come. Fear will tear you all apart." The VDV troopers, looking to each other, began to discuss before deciding that it was time to go before further GLA reinforcements arrived. Taking Omar's life-support and bed, the 1st Brigade called in a transport aviation squadron from Kurmuk as VDV forces began to drive away. Putting the bed-ridden Omar on-board, the VDV forces in full retreated for the 7 hour journey back to Kurmuk, ensuring that the Sudanese government knew of the hostage situation in the village outside of Kodok, as well as GLA activities in the area.
"Vypolnite vyzov Generalu Ourumov. Operatsiya: Zmeya Pozhiratel' byl uspekh, (Make the call to General Ourumov. Operation: Snake Devourer was a success.)" General Novikov stated to several aides by his side. One had already gone to tell Ourumov to send a plane to pick up the decrepit man and send him to Moscow for trial and imprisonment. This would be all over the news in no time once it was made public.
