If you didn't know, I'm also a part-time map maker. The reason for this is when I get tired of being nuked three times against AI . So one day I got inspired to make maps because of Mr. Skittles, he's a cool guy. (Or rabbit) So i just started foraging Cnclabs to find out more about this whole map making thing. I use the installed Rotr maps on my desktop for reference. I made a simple map to play on although I was planning to release it, it was just too plain and I abandoned the project. So to start, you can suggest some map ideas down below so I can start working on other stuff. On the meantime, I'll just continue on an unfinished project I made back then. Be advised though, I don't do maps that has weather in them, I don't know more about Ini files yet... Also don't expect for it to release within 2 weeks, expect it about a month perhaps? IDK, the reason for this is because of life and stuff and I almost forgot, I don't do skirmish-mission maps (like those fan made missions stuff) because I'm still learning. I'll do multiplayer-AI compatible maps. I'll also post the progress (if there is any) and I may be able to put a download link, if I know where to upload the map. Good Day -Fritz P.S. some tips about map making would be nice especially about scripting.

I was a scripter for another mod once. As for tips on map making, your best bet would be to have an idea on what you're making instead of just making it up as you go along. So, grab a piece of paper and a pen or pencil and draw what you want on the map. Start small and once you've drawn it, make it in the World Builder. Rinse and repeat until you've run out of ideas.

Thanks Archibald Stanford, Actually I've been using that technique for quite sometime now... Day 1: Doing some work on the project now I assume, since no one gave some suggestions... I may be able to Edit the updates here if this goes on. So what I have come to mind a long time ago is a 4v4 map where there are 3 areas. The Bridge -This would provide some flanking up North. The Central Town -This will be the main attraction for there will be tech buildings here. The Mountains -This would provide some flanking in the south. This would be a Desert type map and If I have the time, I may be able to convert this into a grass plains map.

I would say keep the terrian flat, don't add too many chokepoints, add buildings or houses in strategic places to give Infantry some focus and avoid using bridges as some people say it causes pathfinding issues but mostly because I find bridges annoying in general.
I think you should post the plan/diagram of the map here so that people can give more detailed inputs.

Here: This was what I had in mind, The Main town area is going to be bigger in the following updates, Also the Mountain area will be used as a flanking route, If the bridge does make issues I'm going to replace it.I was thinking of an initial joint base (two players spawned close together) but the classic corner base would be good too. Also if you want to make suggestions in this map, use this picture for reference:

What are your intended player positions ?

Through several times of thinking, I decided to put the positions close to the center so that they may focus on the center area rather than on the flanks.

So since I finished my first working map, I decided to revive this old rusty thread again... Since I've got nothing to do this Christmas Vacation... So I followed all of your advice, And frankly I've improved... I was a little rusty on my scripting skills last time so I checked online and I realized that the only mistake that I've been doing is that I switched the waypoints (Center,Flank,Backdoor) for each player... Now that I'm finally free from school work, I think I'm able to do this more frequently. So new map (must have 1.87 didn't test on 1.86): Chinese Mission V.1.1 So I kinda messed up the AI but hopefully the new version is fixed.. (Don't worry about the name, I'll change it when it's ready... P.S. don't ask) So give me suggestions or any improvements to make dis good. Also I am sorry that it's crap it's my first legitimate working map so don't expect one of those default maps that ROTR has provided... On the side note, the US won't work for some kind of reason... Strange.
