It has come to my attention that a number of people are displeased with the developments regarding the Treaty Of Moscow and how it will change the political and military landscape. I've also become aware that there are those that have aspirations to leave the RP due to the creator, Nagandemerald. Sadly, everyone who is under the impression it was him are mistaken.
IT WAS ME.
The only input Nag made was adding visual fluff to some of the articles and the banning of nuclear weapons. The rest, pertaining to banning Rods From God, the Particle Cannon, the Solaris Relay, the Tremor and every other conceivable weapon was all my doing. The reason for doing this "dick move" was a very simple one. A treaty that bans just nuclear weapons means that Russia and China and minor factions, such as The United Kingdom, would be at the mercy of Europe and The USA since they possess Solaris and the Particle Cannon, weapons which theoretically can strike anywhere on the planet due to the US's weapon being only the matter of reflecting the particle beam off a satellite that's at the right angle to hit the target and Solaris requires the Europeans to simply reposition the satellites orbit.
In essence, the majority of the factions would lose their protection against the others and their other forms of weapons that, granted, would not wipe them out in the blink of an eye, but would result in mass loss of life through sustained use without any method of preventing it. So, it would then beg the question, why should we give up our nuclear weapons if the other factions have alternatives? There is no conceivable answer that would ensure the safety of them and therefore, I saw it as necessary to expand the treaty to include every conceivable weapon. Nag agreed OOCly to put the treaty forward as entirely Dmitry Molchanov's idea in the RP, but the real creator is myself.
Regardless, I do not wish for those who are bitter about the treaty to blame him, either publicly or privately, since doing so would be propagating a false idea. I can understand that the treaty puts The GLA at an advantage due to them being terrorists and I can understand that it removes a lot of options on the battlefield, but it was the battlefield that made me believe it was necessary to have this treaty written in the first place. I was led to believe that the RP was going stale because people were afraid of each other and their superweapons. MAD was working, since everyone knew that the possibility existed and therefore conflict between the other factions was only at the negotiation table. This treaty was the only way I could see that would redress the balance and allow people to look further afield than just their favourite punching bag, The GLA.
Why redress the balance? Because the GLA aren't going to last forever. There will come a time when they will be completely wiped out, maybe not now with their current status under the leadership of Sayeed, but they will not be able to last forever and once they've been destroyed and everyone's happily sliced up the pie of "Africake", what then? There will be noenemy to fight, no territory to gain, no reason to continue. The point of this RP is that of political intrigue and military might, after all, it's Command & Conquer, but when it becomes impossible to fight due to the possibility of you being wiped out with the push of a button, why should we try?
To provide a little, even though it's fictional, evidence of this, I'd like to direct everyones attention to Red Alert 2. The events of that game were set in a universe that DID possess nuclear weapons AND they were going to be used. The introduction movie shows that the first action of retaliation by President Michael Dugan was the launching of ICBMs at the Soviet Union. However, the Russians were able to sabotage the launch through the use of Yuri's mind control technology. They had neutralised MAD and therefore forced a conflict that would be dictated by the bravery of ordinary soldiers, not the amount of nuclear missiles they possessed. I am aware of the Soviets possessing nuclear missiles in Red Alert 2, but using them on a massive scale would mean that the overall goal of subjugating the US would be a hollow victory if they become masters of a nuclear wasteland.
No matter, I am not here to discuss the merits of MAD or anything else. Just making sure that everyone is aware that Nag is not to blame for taking away all of the superweapons, it was me and only me. Still, those that wish to leave are free to do so, I am not here to persuade you to stay, nor am I here to dictate your lives. I attempted to solve a problem that was presented to me and I did so to the best of my ability, sadly it meant the sacrifice of the big toys that destroy stuff, but it's either that or let the RP inevitably reach a dead end where everyone quietly cooperates because having a good war to clear away the bad blood between nations isn't possible without causing the end of the world.
