"Hello, ladies and gentlemen." The newsreader began. "The once high ranking general, David Van Rotterdam, of The European Continental Army has been demoted in the aftermath of his invasion of Saudi Arabia and Oman. The Dutch officer alleged that the current leader of The ECA, Jürgen Adler, was possibly being influenced by interested parties outside the Alliance."
The view switches to a clip of David Van Rotterdam 's press conference.
"I suggested that Mr Adler was not making these decisions by his own. Why would he not trust his own commanders? In fact: he based his decisions from outside Intel, rather than even communicate properly with his own channels!”
"The Prime Minister, Edmund Wilson, has prepared a response to the generals press release, which included the suggestion that if action was not taken... Gene-I mean Colonel David Van Rotterdam would resign from his post in The ECA."
The view switches to a shot of Edmund Wilson, stood in front of a podium in The House Of Commons, providing his speech.
"This new development within the leadership of The European Continental Army is further proof that it is not a suitable institution to ensure the safety of the citizens that it claims to protect. As I mentioned not so long ago, they were unable to detect and prevent the plot to perform a nuclear attack on the religious centres of two of the most influential religions in the world." Edmund Wilson began before looking down at the papers he had at the dispatch box.
"My deepest sympathies go to David Van Rotterdam, who as far as I and The Cabinet are concerned, has been a force in The ECA that is undeniably priceless in terms of not only his own expertise, but the assets he has been able to secure. Examples being his trade links across the world and the securing of Oman, a move for which he has been mercilessly cashiered by Jürgen Adler, his superior, by four ranks."
Edmund Wilson took a moment to have a sip of water to quench his parched throat.
"The apparent reason he was so mercilessly stripped of his rank and honour is because he questioned the information that his superior had received from outside sources instead of consulting the information Jürgen Adler could gather by his own ECA-affiliated sources. While The United Kingdom holds no ill will towards the outside sources of the information provided to The ECA, whoever they may be, but you can understand the reservations one would have when the political climate is so tense and uncertain. As it stands, this merely galvanises our resolve to forge ahead with the securing of our sovereignty from Brussels. Should we allow ourselves to be at the mercy of an individual who has allowed The Vatican and Rome to be wiped off the face of the planet? Allow our influence in North Africa to dissolve at the drop of a hat?"
Each question caused more and more of the MPs in the chamber to yell "Hear! Hear!" in agreement, causing the Prime Minister to nod, which made them fall silent. He then leaned on the dispatch box, his tone now far more grave and serious.
"I will state here and now that if General David Van Rotterdam is indeed forced to resign due to the ineptitude of Supreme Commander Jürgen Adler, then we would welcome him with open arms to a position inside our own armed forces. He is a man of vision and talent that should not go to waste because his superior is a man who is the polar opposite of the qualities he possesses."
