It was quietly in the white, somewhat Arabic decorated pressroom. Some cameras are being deployed and other people prepared their notebooks. A few officials are checking up several aspects like security, the sound system, the press table, banners, and other equipment. Some people are having a small conversation, while others just wait till somewhat will happen.
A few minutes later the audience was being told to settle down, and be quiet. 1 minute later a side door opened and the Orange General walked in, flanked with some of his personal staff members. Dressed in his typical orange uniform combined with the medals and stars that he ‘collected’ so far, David took place in the middle of the table, with his face pointed to the audience. A few staff members took a seat next to him, or remained standing up somewhere on the background.
Van Rotterdam opened a map and closely scanned the first lines that were written on the paper in front of him. He puts on his reading glasses, and watched the audience till it was fully quiet. “My fellow Europeans, friends, clients, allies, and all the people that are somewhat connected to us. I am in urgent need to share with you some recent activities.” Van Rotterdam started, and he starts reading from his paperwork in front of him.
“Around half a month ago, I had a private word with our Supreme Commander Jürgen Adler. The main topic of this conversation were the current activities in the Middle East. But there was more. And that part, is the most disturbing part that confused me in common. Before I will focus on that part, I want to state: I am unaware if Mr Adler is still suffering from some side effects of the Fear Toxin Strike last Christmas. If so, it could explain some aspects. If not, then I remain confused about that certain situation.”
Van Rotterdam cleared his throat and continues: “I was being told that my work and effort became to pay off. That there was a promotion in sight for me, and even on political levels as well. But instead of receiving that promotion, I was demoted.” Some of the people in the room start speaking quietly.. “And not by 1 rank… but by 4!” Van Rotterdam stated, removing his stars from the uniform. The reporters immediately start making questions, but Van Rotterdam spread his arms to make them understand to be quiet once more. “I can see you questioning me why. Well, the reason was that I questioned 1 order from Brussels High Command. But did I? The only thing I can recall is trying to obtain more Intel on some decision that I ‘questioned’. As a second, I suggested that our Supreme Commander wasn’t making his own decisions. Those were the given reasons…” and the crowd goes once more asking questions.
Waiting several minutes, David took a drink from the glass of water in front of him. “In self-defense… I was asking for the background Intel because the decision in common overthrown all our effort and work in several aspects. When I first not received it, and more or less hold on to a leash.. I suggested that Mr Adler was not making these decisions by his own. Why would he not trust his own commanders? In fact: he based his decisions from outside Intel, rather than even communicate properly with his own channels!” The Orange General stated a little furiously.
“Look people. The current way of Europe isn’t that good at all. I did my best to try to get the economy on a higher level. And I succeeded that, but it can become even greater. But on political level, things are too silently. Even our Research Department is more working on my request then on our beloved Leader. It is his passiveness that will block our way to grow further then we are now. I tried to pursue him to more activities with official meetings and even unofficial (OOC: Skype), but it is trying to move a giant boulder with only your bare hands.” Van Rotterdam sighed. “And that’s why I am concerned on the entire decision instead of promotion, to demote me. Several projects that are running under my super vision are halted. Other projects that I was about to begin, are stashed on my desk collecting dust. I am in no position to continue that aspect of my work…”
“Look. This is not the way you should treat people. With all the efforts I have made so far, I thought I have proven me that I could be trusted. I received occasionally already compliments of my achievements so far. So why suddenly distrust me, and holding back Intel? Second, why making a decision on a foreign piece of Intel, and not investigate it yourself, or at least on the European side? As a third.. consulting outside people for internal communication issues? And as a forth… where is the proactive side of our Leader? A leader should lead their faction right?” van Rotterdam took of his glasses to rub a little in his eyes.
“Were his decision to abandon Africa, he got allot of people complaining about him. I came up with several alternative aspects to replenish the ‘Africa-Chapter’. So we went to Oceania, and the Middle East. We even launched several projects within the European Countries to boost up our economy. And who came up with that list? Yes, the man in front of you.” Van Rotterdam mentioned it somewhat annoyed.
“I saw a troubled man in a tight corner, who had to make perhaps one of the hardest decisions in his career. And I supported him, and came up with several next moves. I backed him up at the moment despite many of you were questioning his choices. To be fair, I was just switching over to the more prominent ECA role (OOC: When I joined the RP; background information/story making). And I don’t want to restart that entire discussion… it is merely to prove that I still had fate in this man..”
“Yes it payed off. He backed me up in Warsaw, with the nuclear threat by the lunatic commander Varennikov… and he suggested to make contact with the SAP with the Oceania Agreements. For in his opinion: I was too fed up with Warsaw in my memory, and he had a point. That was… nice… to be backed up by your leader. I only wish that he shown more of that side of him. I know he has it… but many times, it is just hidden or deactivated or somewhat…” David took another sip of his water.
“So after 2 of my prominent projects were finished, I came up with several new ones. So we will also getting our knowledge to a greater level. New units and new challenges for our scientists and our faction in common. Perhaps the NAU is the most technology advanced nation.. but is that a reason to slack on our own capacities? And why should we not try to achieve new stuff… the Solaris Network is one of them who paid off big times..”
“Then there is the economic side. I just mentioned the NAU.. so let’s start there. Within our little conversation, and before the ugly word of ‘demote’ was spoken, Mr Adler complimented me for putting so much effort in trade deals. And he mentioned that with my communications with President Steven Freephoenix . Yes, but is he aware of the other economic projects of mine? Like we are busy in India to achieve some trading deals… I also tried contacting Mr Ramon Cañarte Valverde of the SAP. And China? Who set up the first connections for the oil trading? Oceania? That was Mr Costello, on my command while I keep focussing on the Middle East..”
“It was me who suggested and ordered the reorganisation of our former North African Territories. To reschedule and redeploy the last extraction teams. I foresaw the GLA at a point using them as a leverage to even oppress us more. So I was 1 step ahead of them. Our economy already shifting to other directions.. and even still making money of North Africa… what else could go wrong you might ask..” And Van Rotterdam restacked some of his papers.
“Chapter strategy. While Mr Adler had the world on his neck of the Africa decision.. I saw other dark horizons. The former leaders of Russia, could not be trusted, and more or less war hungry. There was no speaking with them. So… war was imminent. I started several projects in order to protect our homes! Your, his… him… hers… and even my own!” Van Rotterdam random pointing in the audience. “Thank god those former leaders were replaced…. Threatening us with a Nuclear War… pffff”
“But talking about projects… what’s the point of having several secret projects when they will end up on the street? I got knowledge that European High Command shared several pieces of information outside the European Members (OOC: Skype etc). I was astonished when I took notice of that. The same who advised Mr Adler about a certain threat… and he follows him blindfolded!” Van Rotterdam takes of his glasses, placing them on the desk. “Oceania, was our secret backup if we were in urgent need of food. Whether it was with the war in the Middle East.. or Europe.. or maybe one of our allies..? who knows… well, more than I was hoping for..”
“So.. people of Europe and other viewers… is this the way of threatening people around you? I always said that I will be there where ever Europe needs me. I even am using my Corporations at a certain way so small companies in Europe can profit from the trading negotiations. I always look after the ‘Triple Win’, speaking of business that is. I spot opportunities… and I want to exploit them and share them. The same goes for knowledge…”
“Perhaps I am not a super successful politician. And I could care less. But being demoted by 4 ranks… when I did this… you may decide whether or not it is fair/legit or not. But I cannot continue my work in this way…” The Orange General starts to remove his medals and other military badges from his uniform, tossing them in front of him on the desk. “And with this I will state: if this continues this way, I will resign from the ECA Military Force!” People start talking and firing questions to the Orange General but David continues: “It was 2 weeks ago when I heard the message… and within those 2 weeks.. not a single damn thing has took place. If Mr Adler remains in power of the ECA, or doesn’t do anything about this press release that will comfort us, you and me, then I will resign! If he contacts me, well, my doors are open…” David shouted this a little, overcome the voices of the audience. Several officers looked dumb folded, uncomfortable about David’s statement of the chance losing him
“I have accepted enough of Europe’s High Command so far. I cannot keep making exceptions. I cannot keep saying: Okay, apologies accepted. I cannot keep defending a passive leader. Enough is enough. Then it must be this, dramatically, way. Or shall we just follow the example of the youth? Commenting like a bunch of idiots on YouTube Videos… (OOC: Referring to the Sticks and Drones shenanigans). We need Leaders. People who will take responsibilities instead of leaning backwards. The best defence is the offence, or in other words… better be prepared and pro-active then passive”
Van Rotterdam rises once more from his seat, and without any military medal or whatever… he walks back to the door, leaving the room in loud speaking of the audience.
(OOC: I was planning to write even more… but I think you, whoever reads this, understand my point here. And I am really tired)
