The United Kingdom
The United Kingdom is an island nation neighbouring the continent of Europe that is currently a member of the European Continental Alliance. Their history is vast, spanning centuries, where the people who compose The UK have engaged in the creation of the single largest empire on earth, now dissolved, and one of the major parties in both World Wars. Their loyalty to their own cultural roots have resulted in them being a unique partner in the European community, which has been evident in the early days of The European Union.
However, due to the recent failings by the European Superstate to quell The Global Liberation Army and the loss of North Africa and the Middle East to China and The GLA, the Prime Minister, Edmund Wilson, leader of the United Kingdom Consolidation Party, and his cabinet decided that now was a good time for The UK to distance themselves from the union they are currently engaged in with The ECA.
The British military machine is a well trained and capable one, having been responsible for the invention of the Harrier, Claymore self-propelled artillery platform, Anvil Support Bot and assorted other small arms and weapons that are in common use by the ECA.
Their own forces are tried and tested, after being involved in not only colonial and world wars during the 18th and 19th centuries respectively, but also counterinsurgency wars like Afghanistan and Iraq in the early 21st century. They consist of The Royal Navy, and its infantry component, The Royal Marines, The Royal Air Force and The British Army. Allowing them a full variety of forces for any operation they see fit for the interests of Queen/King and country.
Due to their armed forces not being part of the ECA, they are therefore not under the command of Brussels, but are totally under the control of the government/Ministry Of Defence, based in London. The tactics they engaged in have been shaped by their ventures in Iraq and Afghanistan, favouring cautious use of combined arms from all branches of service to ensure the lowest amount of casualties for maximum benefit, a doctrine that was implemented in the aftermath of the carnage of World War Two.
As such, they have a technologically advanced arsenal, however, economical problems in the early 2000’s has resulted in the armed forces shrinking to a relatively small force that is dwarfed in comparison to America, Russia or China. Ergo, while they may possess a force that is well trained and highly advanced, it is not in a state for mass conventional warfare without significant expansion. However, the one ace up their sleeve is the presence of Trident, a nuclear submarine based deterrent which has been in service for years, regardless of attempts to scrap it. Therefore, it still has a small, relatively outdated, but functioning nuclear capability to provide it a method of mutually assured destruction in the event of nuclear war.
