I propose we add a fortification system to the current dice roll in the hopes of making it a bit more realistic.
Here's how it'll work:
First off, the way a unit or division would receive this bonus is by staying in one location longer than a day. There would be several levels of fortification, the longer the unit stays stationary the higher the level.
First level would be after one day, this will be a basic form of fortification, meaning a few trenches and sandbag walls here and there and a couple of basic machine gun nests.
Second level would be after three days, there would be a lot more trenches and the machine gun nests would be better fortified, with the addition of tank traps and a couple of AA and AT positions.
Third level would be after six days, with a lot more AA and AT positions, as well as artillery.
Fourth level would be after twelve days, it would have more artillery positions as well as anti-personnel and anti-tank mines on the outskirts of the defended location.
Now, as for the bonus its self. It will reflect in the casualties dice roll, for example if a first level fortification is being attack the defender would roll a d95 instead of a d100 for the casualties. The higher the level of the fortification would mean that the number in the dice roll would be lesser and lesser.
These would be the rolls for each level:
First level: d95
Second level: d90
Third level: d80
Fourth level: d75
