The day went by relatively quietly. The birds were singing, cars were beeping, everything was at serenity. At home, people watched the morning news.
"Well, thank you Janet, now, for the ––– this i –– than ––" As the news broadcast started fluttering with static, a variety of disturbing images fluttered up on screens across countries everywhere, disappearing as quickly as they came. Along with the images, various words were said by a distorted, if not familiar voice.
"Fear"
"Pain."
"Lies."
"What do you see?" The series of flashing images then stopped, as the static began to clear, and show a figure, corpse-like, sitting on an oak chair in a dark, smokey room. While many had probably turned off their TVs at this point, there were most likely still a large amount of people who just couldn't turn away from the figure.
"Are you listening?" a distorted voice said. The mouth of the creature on the chair moved, and out of it, came the voice.
"I know what you are thinking...you are afraid. You do not know what is happening...let me enlighten you. Fear is nothing but theatrics, so permit me the indulgence of putting on a show." The screen then turned to static, showing another frightening image before returning to the man in the chair.
"

The figure then looked up, revealing his face to the world as he said only few final words, before the screen cut to static and what sounded like a static-encoded scream could be heard.
"Silence will set you free." After the odd interrupting broadcast was finished, every station returned to their regularly scheduled programs. Children who were watching cartoons would be scarred for life, sports fans would be furious, but now afraid after what they had seen, and there would be those who would say the entire thing was a hoax.
